History
Javorak until 2004
The wood processing in Montenegro and
niksic has its origin in the end of XIX century, when in
1888 in Gornje Polje near Niksic was transferred the
sawmill from Rijeka Crnojevica, which was, as the very
first sawmill in Montenegro, built on that location in
1874. In 1930's of XX century, the sawmill that worked
in tow shifts, due to a large-scale production, was
built on the current location of Javorak. Shortly before
the World War II, this sawmill became the biggest one in
Montenegro. The owners were joint-stock companies Ombla
and Treska from Belgrade. During the was major part of
the sawmill was under the Italian management.
In 1948., by the act of state, a
wood-industrial company was formed by the name of "1.
maj" Niksic which dealt with wood exploitation and wood
articles process.
In the '50 in Niksic there was
Communal-joinery company for furniture production. At
the end of the same decade this company was acceded to
the "1. Maj" Niksic and Javorak entered the final phase
of wood processing the furniture production. After a
while, there was adjunction of the "1. Maj" to the wood
holding from niksic when the wood-industrial enterprise
"Javorak" was formed, or briefly SIK Javorak.
The decades that passed were marked
by the great expansion of Javorak's finished products on
both former Yugoslavia and foreign markets. Naturally,
there were the prizes for quality as well: at the
International Furniture fair in Belgrade in 1972 and
1978 SIK javorak won "the golden key".
The SIK's glory lasted until 1992
when the Trade Court from Podgorica voted the resolution
of bankruptcy procedure.
Javorak from
2004
On April 2nd, 2004,
Mi-Rai,
the acknowledged furniture production company from
Niksic, signed the privatization contract with the
Government of Montenegro, thus giving a brand new life
to Javorak: Javorak d.o.o. was founded and posed its
foundation on the new basis, but on the other side it
keeps on with the tradition long the whole century. This
year (2004) we invested 1.800.000 EUR in reconstruction
of the producing premises - revitalization of the
present capacities, machines and acquisition of new
technologies.
Today we do business on surface of
121.516 m2. To the industrial and commercial premises
belong 22.272 m2. Other 91.178 m2 belong to local ways,
parking lots, warehouses, manipulative spaces etc.
The concession for the woods
exploitation in the next 10 years, given by the
Government of Montenegro, enabled us to complete the
producing process.
